Don’t Make These Branding Mistakes

What is a brand identity?

A brand of a business identifies and distinguishes a product or service in a consumers’ mind. A brand is pretty powerful, don’t you think? So, when would anyone take creating one so lightly?

Not Knowing Your Target Market

There’s a real problem if you don’t know who you are in business for! So, let’s fix that. First, define your target or niche market. To clarify: these “markets” are your customers, users, or clients to whom you are providing a product or service to. Once identified, create a brand that speaks to them. If you want to engage moms in their 30’s, you will want to develop an identity that speaks to their interests and lifestyle. In able to do that you must know what she wants and what she doesn’t.

Committing to Quick

While you should take immediate steps to build your brand. Don’t make the mistake of committing to an identity too quickly. Rushing can land you with things like a poorly designed logo. Let’s be honest, do you really want your badly designed logo staring at you everywhere you look? Some advice, have as many people as possible look at your prospective logo design before you debut it.

Afraid to Be an “Expert”

Well, I don’t really want to hold myself out as an “Expert”. Ok, don’t. But know this, your competition is not afraid to.  Establishing expertise should be the most important part of your brand. If you are a web designer, your brand should position you as -the go-to web designer for clients who only want to work with the best. Don’t let modesty get stand between you and generating revenue. Insecurity is not your friend either. Putting yourself in a position as an expert attracts only gets you more business and the competition less.

These are just a few mistakes that are made when setting out to create a brand. Take a few moments to evaluate where you want to take your brand.  Avoiding mistakes early on will create a business more memorable for all the right reasons.
